Saint Marciana of Dellys, virgin and martyr, was born in Dellys in Kabylia in the fourth century.
St. Marcienne’s pain
Born into a wealthy family, she converted very early to Christianity. One day, she approached the statue of Diana, which stood in the square in Cherchell, and began crushing it to remove the idol.
She was arrested by soldiers, whipped and given to gladiators to satisfy their desires. But, miraculously, they did not touch her. She was then delivered to the predatory animals in the arena. A lion spared her, but an ox wounded her and a leopard killed her.
