It is in a context of repression and particularly serious harassment that Kabylia commemorated on 16 April the double anniversary of the Kabyle Spring of 1980, 1981 and the Black Spring of 2001. Beyond the commemoration, these are two key dates that have shaped the history of modern Kabylia while drawing its foundations from its millenary history of resistance and continuous refusal to bend the knee, whatever the aggressor and whatever the price to pay.
This year’s commemoration has carried a particular mark: that of the eternal Kabylia that remains standing against all odds, that of the Kabylia that suffers and fights peacefully for its right to self-determination, that of the Kabylia that refuses to abdicate in the face of the Algerian junta, one of the most dictatorial, violent and barbaric regimes.
Kabylia has finally broken the lead cover that systematically assigned it to the rank of “region” under management to claim loud and clear its legitimate right to self-determination and live as a free and independent country: Kabylia.
