I don’t think Kabyle people need a god to live. Nor to die.
The Muslim Algerians (pleonasm) are not fooled and are reacting more viscerally against the wave of evangelisation in Kabylia, they know very well the peoples they dominate (Chawi, Kabyles, Mozabites, Tuareg, Chenwi): the Kabyles are well and truly trying to get rid of Islam. You don’t have to be a super sociologist or ethnologist to see this.
What irritates the Arab Muslims even more is that Kabyle society doesn’t seem to object too much to those who are evangelising. It is willing and seems to think that it is perhaps this lawless youth who is being Christianised without a second thought that will free it from the Islamic yoke, which is in fact formal. The Kabyle believe that it is easier to get rid of Christianity than it is to get rid of Islam. Every Kabyle, every other Algerian, is a Muslim by birth. They are de facto summoned to submit and breathe the Muslim air. Officially and unofficially.
The only way for Islam to recognise that one of its followers is turning his back on it is for him to convert officially and publicly to another religion. At their peril.
In Kabylia, for the moment, the Arab Muslims are informing the Kabyle “of the risks”. The peril will fall on the Kabyle’s head without warning!
PS: one of the gods of the pagan Berbers was the bull. Each village had its own god. The villagers fattened him up, looked after him, worshipped him and pampered him. Once it was big and fat, the villagers killed it to devour it in a great religious festival. Allah will also be eaten. He’s a kbar, but the Kabyle have no lack of appetite.
