Lalla Faḍma N’Sumer (1830–1863) is one of the major heroines of Kabyle resistance against the French colonial enterprise in the land of Kabylia. Her life and personality have been surrounded by myths and mysteries. Although her name is mentioned in colonial chronicles recording the conquest of Kabylia in 1857, after having conquerered almost the whole Algeria, her exact role in leading a movement of Kabyle resistance against the French domination over the Kabylia lands doesn’t seem to be sufficiently clear up to now.
Consequently, the epic of Faḍma N’Sumer still needs shedding light..
