The Berber community seems to have been one of the few that has not experienced anti-Semitism.
Azref, the Berber legal system (as opposed to the Muslim and Jewish) is completely independent of the religious sphere.
Azref in essence, is: “secular, egalitarian, and imposes no special status on Jews, while Muslim law stipulates Jewish (and Christian) status as dhimmis, “protected”, subject to certain obligations and prohibitions.
Jews occupied a distinct place in the socio-economic Berber village: they usually fulfilled the function of craftsman (goldsmith, shoemaker, plumber) or merchant, both speciality could be itinerant.
