Gathered in Fessaṭu (Jadu), this Thursday, January 28, 2021, the presidents of the Amazigh municipalities, the officials of the High Council of Amazighs of Libya as well as human rights and civil society activists from the Amazigh regions, declared their total and final rejection of the draft constitution of the Libyan provisional authorities, as they announced their refusal to take part in the referendum that the provisional authorities intend to organize for the adoption of a Constitution. At the same time, they call on all Amazighs living in other regions of Libya not to participate in this referendum.
But beyond this rejection and the denunciation of the racist and contemptuous attitude of the provisional authorities who, moreover, are subject to foreign influences, particularly Egyptian and French, the Amazighs have decided not to waste any more time trying to convince and bring to common sense those who do not seem to intend to build a Libya for all the Libyan components.
Thus, they inform international and local opinion about their intention to proclaim a new administrative region encompassing all the Amazigh territories of Adrar n Infusen and At-Willul (Zouara). They also intend to adopt their own Constitution.
These decisions come in the midst of preparations for the elections of representatives of the various Amazigh regions within the High Council of Amazighs of Libya (HCAL). We in Tamezgha Association welcome this decision of the Amazighs of Libya and we assure them of our full support.
