Spain has just reached a dangerous impasse. This 20/09/2017, by making a state coup against Catalonia’s right to self-determination, it is all Catalans who are being pushed into the camp of the independentists.
The arrest of the Catalan elected representatives is by no means a solution for Madrid. At some point, they will have to admit that the determination of a people for their freedom, as long as they do not use violence, is irrepressible.
The responsibility for this Spanish constitutional wreckage lies both in a text that does not comply with the right of peoples to self-determination and in the refusal of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to respect the game of democracy. One does not defend a constitution by burying it, one does not respect freedom by suppressing it.
Kabylia, which condemns this authoritarian trend, expresses its support for the Catalan people and its arrested politicians.
The President of Anavad calls on the King of Spain to wisely and swiftly restore constitutional order, without calling into question the holding of the referendum on 1 October in Catalonia.
He calls on the European Union and its parliament to address this serious violation of an essential principle of international law, the right of peoples to self-determination.
