At the UN, Morocco calls for self-determination of the Kabyle people in Algeria: The question of self-determination of Kabylia was raised for the first time at the United Nations. This is an iniative from Morocco and it seems like it’s caused by taking revenge on Algeria for supporting the imaginary Sahrawi people.
To mark the 70th anniversary of the creation of the UN, the number two of Morocco’s diplomatic representation in New York, Abderrazzak Laassel, made a sensational statement, calling to recognize the right of the Kabyle people to self determination. He stressed that the Kabyle people were “one of the most ancient peoples of Africa that continues to be deprived of the right to self-determination,” he said.
Abderrazak Laassel did not beat around the bush. He insisted that it was “unfortunate that the legitimate aspirations of the Kabyle people are still flouted in the 21st century”, recalling that “their human rights are violated every day, its legitimate representatives are persecuted and its leaders are hunted, including when they are in exile, “he said.
Present at the event, the representative of the Algerian government for his part criticized the management by Morocco of the Sahara issue.
