A Kabyle delegation was received at the European Parliament in Strasboug

European Parliament

Two days after the holding of the 5th ordinary congress of the Movement for Self-Determination of Kabylia (MAK) in Paris, a delegation of the Provisional Government of Kabylia (GPK / Anavad) led by President Ferhat Mehenni, was received today Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the European Parliament in Strasbourg by the parliamentary group The Greens / EFA (European Free Alliance) represented by its President and Secretary General, in the presence of members of the parliamentary group. The MAK is also a member of the EFA since 2017.
After the presentation and the word of welcome, the floor was given to Mas Aselway Ferhat Mehenni to expose the critical situation prevailing in Kabylia, particularly the serious violations of human rights and crimes against humanity committed by the Algerian colonial power in Kabylia and against the Kabyle people in general.
A long historical account presented by President Mehenni traced the struggle of the Kabyle people, characterised by the permanent conflict between Algeria and Kabylia since the latter lost its sovereignty on 24 June 1857.
Several topics were discussed during this exchange, including the boycotts of the successive elections that took place in Algeria (presidential, revision of the constitution, legislative and local elections), the zero kabyle operation, the genocidal management of the Covid, the criminalisation of the MAK (article 87bis), the criminal forest fires, genocide and ecocide of Kabylia which caused the death of more than 500 Kabyles, the assassination of Djamel Bensmaïl by the Algerian Services, the mass arrests and imprisonment of Kabylian activists in general and MAK activists in particular, the rape of activists, the torture and death sentences in parodies of justice
The President of Anavad told the European parliamentarians that all this ferocious repression that the colonial power is subjecting Kabylia was intended to push the MAK and parodies of justice to abandon the peaceful struggle for the independence of Kabylia or fall into the trap of violence and chaos that the Algerian regime likes.
However, on the ground, this repression has only strengthened the determination of the Kabyle people to move towards their freedom and independence as the only way to guarantee their existence and sustainability.
A complete file tracing all the human rights violations committed by colonial Algeria against the Kabyle people was given to all the parliamentarians of the Greens/EFA Group. Copies of the UPR report and the Kabyle constitution were also given to the same parliamentarians.
The members of the EFA, fervent defenders of the self-determination of peoples, expressed and reiterated their support for the Kabyle people to achieve their self-determination.
The two parties agreed to meet again very soon to study and elaborate all together the ways, means and action plans necessary for the European Parliament to assist and react in favour of the Kabyle people to put an end to the tragedies and humiliations that the Algerian colonial power is regularly and cyclically inflicting on them.
