A British Conservative MP raises the issue of church closures in Kabylia.
Jeremy Lefroy, Conservative MP for Stafford in the UK, told the House of Commons: The government is committed to condemning the persecution of Christians around the world and supporting freedom of religion and belief for all, including those who have no religion or belief.
The church of the full gospel of the city of Tizi-Ouzou is the latest church to have been closed. The church was ordered to do so last week. The question from the British member is this: could we have a regular statement to the government on the work done in this area?
Jacob Rees-Mogg, Leader of the House of Commons, responded: I am extremely sensitive to what my honorable friend is asking. It may be possible to do so for specific issues at future meetings on this topic, as well as to raise the issue of people illegally detained by foreign governments such as Algeria. In the meantime, I sent an e-mail to the Archbishop of Canterbury on this subject.
